History

Take Our Daughters To Work Day was founded in New York in the summer of 1992 by Gloria Steinemand the Ms. Foundation for Women and its president, Marie C. Wilson, and the Women's foundation treasurer, Ms. Daren Ball. While the first celebration took place on April 22nd, 1993, and since then it has been celebrated on the fourth Thursday of April in order for the 37 million children, parents, schools in over 3.5 million workplaces across the country. In addition to participants in over 200 countries around the world, plan ahead for this annual event; this day has generally been scheduled on a day that is a school day for most children in the United States. Most schools also provide literature and encourage to promote thisevent. You can see many educators provide with materials for incorporating career screening into school curricula on the day before or after the event.

However, prior to the inclusion of boys, the Ms. Foundation contended that the program was designed to specially deal with unique self-esteem issues to girls and originally resisted force to include boys. Much of this force came from educators who did not wish to include the event in their curriculum given that their male students were not encouraged to contribute.

While in 2007, upon becoming its own part foundation, Take Our Daughters And Sons To Work program was turned over to Carolyn McKecuen, a MacArthur Genius Award recipient, who took effectiveorganize as its Executive Director before relocated to Elizabeth City, North Carolina where it has remained since. Gloria Steinem continued to maintain a role with the Take Our Daughters And Sons To Work Foundation as a member of its board of directors.

This program was initiated to encourage the workplace teams and this makes everyone and the kids comfortable by including healthy programs and events so that children who come with their parents can participate without any hesitation. Being part of a workplace team also involves accepting responsibilities; and when each team member acts responsible, it makes the workplace more successful.

This is the day; which shows children the value of their education and provides a chance to share how they can imagine their future and begin to take steps toward their goals in a hands-on and interactive environment.
